After learning about Apricot fruit which was responsible for curing and preventing cancer she found a local yam which contained high proportion of Vitamin B 17 used it for one month and got cured.

How to Eat Dragon Fruit

Choose a ripe dragon fruit:
Look for bright, even-colored skin. If the fruit has a lot of blotches, it may be over-ripe but a few is normal. Another sign of over-ripe dragon fruit is a very dry, brittle brown stem, or brown on the tips of the "leaves". Hold the dragon fruit in your palm and try pressing the skin with your thumb or fingers - it should give a little, but shouldn't be too soft or mushy. If it's very firm, it will need to ripen for a few days.

Cut the Dragon Fruit

Place the dragon fruit over a cutting board or other clean surface. Then cut the fruit straight down the middle with a sharp knife. It will cut quite easily.

Open the Dragon Fruit

Cut through to the other side, so that you can separate the fruit into 2 sections. Inside the flesh may be white or red - both will have tiny black edible seeds.

Separate the Flesh from the Skin.
There are various ways to prepare dragon fruit for eating - this is just one way. Run a tablespoon around the circumference of the first section to separate the flesh from the skin.
Lift Flesh out of the Skin.
Now lift the flesh out of the skin and place it on the cutting board. Reserve the skin for serving if desired. Note that the skin is NOT edible. Do the same for the other half.
Remove Skin from Flesh.
Turn the mound of flesh over, checking for any residual pink skin. Slice this off, as the skin isn't healthy to ingest.
Slice up the Dragon Fruit.
Now you can slice up the flesh. Cubes work well for eating the fruit fresh. Enjoy Your Fresh Dragon Fruit a Variety of Ways! Buy dragon fruit and enjoy the flavor today!

Sri Lanka and Angam Pora

 Sri Lankan Martial Arts

Sri Lanka is a country with a rich history that goes back over 5000 years. In Sri Lanka there is a great martial Art Known as Angam Pora that was enjoyed by kings who ruled this wonderful land. In the past ages, where survival of the fittest prevailed, this tiny nation had to hold its own, mostly against the mighty India’s south Chola Kingdom. The kings of India many times thought to have this “Pearl of the Indian Ocean” to decorate their crowns and invaded the island. But each time they were driven back. Such was the invincible might of the fighting techniques practiced by the people of Sri Lanka and they called it the “Angam Satan  Kalawa” a type of Martial Arts fighting.

Angam Pora

Angam Pora is type of martial arts practiced in Sri Lanka for over 3000 years. “Anga” in the native language is body and “Pora” signified cambat. Body combat which was unarmed combat was called Angampora as only the human parts were used. Where various types of weapons were used such combat techniques were called” Illangam”.

The Sri Lankan art of angam pora was so feared by the British who ruled the country from 1815 to 1948 outlawed it.  Over the next 200 years it almost became extinct, but in the suburbs   of Colombo there was one group fighting to protect their heritage.
The main aims of Angam Pora were to protect the race, religion and the country. That was why they mastered it and it was not to fight enemies on the street. There are some movements that come from the tiger, the Lion, the Bear, the snake, the monkey, the mantis, the python, the elephant, the peacock, the butterfly and so many other animals.

The Angam Pora art is a way of life. As in any sport you need strength and the will to excel in the techniques you learn. However Angam Kalawa does not advocate exercises or practicing in any way that will harm you physically in the long run. You do not punch or kick concrete blocks or abuse your body in any manner that will have ill effects after a while. You learn of herbs and plants and other natural food that will improve your strength. You learn of medicinal herbs and methods of indigenous Sri Lankan medicine.

You are required to learn to defend yourself against harm others would inflict on you. You do not learn Angam kalawa art with the intention of inflicting harm to others. Your daily practicing should commence and end after meditating. In meditation you are required to focus on learning the art without injuring you or any others who will help you to learn the techniques.

Under the Colonial Rule

Sri Lanka formerly known as Ceylon was target for foreign raiders. It has endured many invasions from India, as well as colonization by the Portuguese, Dutch and eventually English. All of them were met with fierce resistance.
While the local kings kept a large number of full time soldiers, the farmers were also trained to answer the call of the drums if enemies arrive. Angam Pora made up a large part of the national defense and using their guerrilla tactics, with much ferocity and full expertise, turned many wars in favor of their motherland.

Portuguese Defeated by the use of Angam Pora

The Portuguese in particular learned the true power of Angam Pora in the most costly circumstances. Despite taking to the field with superior weapons, the armed forces were completely wiped out in the famous 1562 battle of Mulleriyawa. It was fought in marshland against locally trained forces backed by war elephants. In nearly 150 years of occupation the Portuguese failed to conquer any more one third of the island.

From 1656 to 1796 the Dutch enjoyed a little more success. In 1796 governance of the Island was passed to the British Empire, whose campaign against natives was severe and bloody. Having gained control of previously unconquered Kingdom of Kandy in the Up country, The Governor Sir Robert Brownrigg sensed the danger posed by Angam Pora activists, took extreme measures to suppress Angam Pora Martial Arts. The practice was outlawed via notice in the local newspapers, and many of the teaching gurus were arrested and their training centers were razed to the ground. From there on anyone involved with Angam Pora was shot in the knee. This stopped number of people teaching and learning the martial art. However it was not eradicated completely. Many people keen to keep the tradition alive began to practice in secret and several of the foot movements were disguised in traditional dance.
Now there are few families who kept the art of Angam Pora without being forgotten.

Coral Gardens of Sri Lanka

Coral Gardens of Sri Lanka

Hikkaduwa is a popular tourist destination in the Galle District is renowned for its beach and the corals. The Coral Garden here is considered to be the best out of all such coral gardens found in Asia. These corals are found in various forms and shapes and colors. They are a very fascinating sight when there is bright sunlight which gives a clear view of the corals. You can see corals in the shape of cabbage leaves and some are like lady’s fan. Since there is no silt, corals can grow in their natural form and color.

The beach of Hikkaduwa coastal town is situated 98 km from Colombo Capital city of Sri Lanka.  It is towards the south of Sri Lanka. This fun coastal town is 14 km from the city of Galle which is the main city of the southern part of the island. Hikkaduwa is one of the most beautiful beaches visited by tourists. Diving in the clear waters is a major sport and pastime along this stretch and it is most environmentally friendly way to see colorful fish that dart around. There is a reef of lime stones running parallel to the coast. The corals are in between this line of lime stones and the coast. The sea up to about 200 m from the coast is very shallow. The reef of lime stones protects the corals from high tide.

Coral Beach

The coral sanctuary found on the coast of Hikkaduwa is a large shallow body of water enclosed by a reef, decorated with layers of multi colored corals, which is home to countless number of colorful fish. Off the beach there is a collection of tiny islets surrounded by beautiful formations. Many species of fish and turtles are found here. There are more than four ship wrecks for diving enthusiasts to explore along with dive shops offering courses and equipment. Plenty of beachfront accommodation and a reputation as the second best surf spots in Sri Lanka by the international board-riding set and the reason so many tourists visit Hikkaduwa.
The resort area has now engulfed two or three villages south of it, and is now 4 km strip of hotels, shops, bars, restaurants and guesthouses. The beaches are nice and wide and swimming is safe here, though the currents are stronger to the south of Hikkaduwa.

The impressive coral reef runs just offshore and is populated by exotic fish and sea turtles. Glass bottomed boats are available for visitors wanting to see the wonders of the deep while keeping their feet dry.
After a short distance southwards from the center of the reef, it diminishes given rise to a wider sandy bottomed beach with good waves ideal for board surfs and body surfing. You can always rent the necessary equipment needed for snorkeling and surfing. Hikkaduwa is an established tourist destination and surfing there is quite well known. But there is no overcrowding here though. The reef is corral and so first aid kit will also become handy. There are many shops selling Masks, Gems, Jewelry, Batik clothes, antiques and local crafts. There are also Buddhist temples which is also an attraction to the tourists. Sri Lanka welcomes tourists from all parts of the world to enjoy the sunny beaches and other attractions.
